Welcome to the Lokas Studio Kitchen

The Lokas Studio Kitchen aims to inspire individuals to embrace slow-food philosophies of cooking seasonal, pesticide and preservative free foods, and to enjoy the process of cooking and the celebration of communal eating. By making better food choices for ourselves and our families, we support local farmers and more sustainable practices. The following are a collection of recipes, tips, and mini-cookbooks that have been put together over time, some of which have been altered from creators who have served as inspiration (credited where credit is due). While not all recipes may be 100% seasonal or locally sourced, readers are encouraged to alter them where necessary and provide feedback. This collection represents a work in progress, as we strive to have a more positive impact on our health, the organic farming community, and the environment.

Studio Kitchen Seasonal Cleanse: Autumn

A seasonal cleanse can serve as a reset button for our digestive system and overall well-being. It involves transitioning our dietary habits in response to changes in weather, availability of produce, and our body’s needs as we transition into colder or warmer seasons. A cleanse can then help prepare for liquid ‘feasting’ which is the consumption of liquid soup and green juices. This liquid cleanse provides a period of rest for the digestive system, allowing the body to divert energy and resources towards other essential bodily functions to facilitate detoxification, cellular repair and reduced inflammation. This shift towards whole, unprocessed foods can help reduce the urge to eat processed sugars, unhealthy fats, and artificial additives in our regular diets after the cleanse.

Golden Milk

Golden milk, is a traditional Ayurvedic drink that has gained popularity for its potential health benefits. It is made by combining milk with turmeric and other spices like black pepper, ginger, and cinnamon.

The curcumin found in turmeric has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which may reduce inflammation in the body, making it particularly beneficial for conditions related to joint pain and arthritis.

The warming spices used like ginger and black pepper are believed to help increase body heat and circulation, which can be especially comforting in colder weather.

Summer Drinks: Hydrate

Electrolytes are vital minerals like sodium, potassium, and calcium, crucial for fluid balance and bodily functions. Ayurveda emphasizes hydrating with warm water even in the summer months, herbal infusions, and hydrating foods to maintain dosha balance and promote overall health and well-being.

Water alone may not be sufficient for hydration because it can potentially aggravate certain dosha imbalances. Excessive consumption of cold water may disturb the natural balance of Vata dosha, leading to issues like dryness, digestive discomfort, and restlessness. This mini-cookbook shares practices and recipes that have proved effective on my journey to feeling hydrated when water never felt like it was enough.
